Despite the ridiculous title, choosing a model and doing the prep work wasn’t too hard this time around. In terms of paint scheme I had already done a blue scheme for Capital Palette 2019 and I am already planning on doing a red scheme for Capital Palette 2010, so I decided to go for yellow for the Jersey Devil. Also, I went with vehicles and walkers instead of infantry in order to change things up a bit and broaden my skills
However, I didnt’ want to buy a vehicle this time around because my hobby dollars were being used for other projects. Luckily for me, I am part of a pretty awesome Warhammer group and one of the guys was kind enough to let me build and paint an Astra Militarum Valkyrie he was going to use as a proxy in his Lamenters army.

Since this model belonged to someone else there was a specific paint scheme he wanted. The lamenter’s paint scheme is a bright yellow similar to the Imperial Fists, but a striking feature they have is that their chapter symbol is a red heart inside a white circle that is then surround by a black and white checkerboard pattern. The design is fairly difficult and for the flyer it was requested to do this pattern as a stripe on each wing. Also, they don’t have any type of trim color, meaning I am going to have to emphasize shadows and highlights more than usual in order to get some visual interest going on.

The other model I though of entering was a walker, specifically the Guijia from the ITS box. It’s generally painted a yellow color because that is the normal scheme from the game and this way I can learn one color for two entries. The only downside is that with such a large metal mini, if it doesn’t fit together well then trying to fix it is going to be something of a pain. Also, I wonder if I am biting off more than I can chew with doing two non-infantry models for a competition that is mere months away from when I started this process.

Regardless of the time crunch I will have at least one model good to go because the Joan of Arc I did for the Capital Palette will be making a comeback at the Jersey Devil. The plan there is to touch up the highlights on her hair, do some more edge highlighting on her weapons and armor, and maybe change up the nmm on her sword. So at minimum I plan on having two entries for the competition and if all goes well I’ll have three. Only time will tell how this will go but at least it will be good to challenge myself to be faster in general.
Till next time my wayward compadres.
